ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, Center for Public Theology

Position Description:

The Assistant Director supports the planning and operations within the Center of Public Theology (CPT).  This position is directly responsible for assisting the Director with functions related to programming, strategic plan development and operations. This is a full-time position, M-F, with hours from 8:30 am – 4:30.  Some evenings and weekends may be required due to events and programming.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic plans, goals and vision for the Center for Public Theology
  • Work with the director to coordinate and supervise daily operations
  • Maintain clear communication among Center staff through team meetings and schedules
  • Supervise student workers
  • Maintain the scheduling of Center events and represent the Center and the seminary with external event partners as needed
  • Ensure compliance with seminary policies related to budget and administration
  • Manage current grant implementations and new grant applications
  • Create regular reports and submit them to the director as requested
  • Planning and implementing public theology programing for the seminary and community
  • Cultivate relationships with the Center and seminary’s colleagues in the wider field of public theology
  • Work with the seminary’s financial managers to develop the CPT’s annual budget
  • Manage the CPT’s budget on a day to day basis, including completion of required seminary paperwork and documentation
  • Implement the CPT’s communications strategy through website development, social media engagement, and the creation of marketing materials
  • Work closely with the seminary’s Department of Communications and Marketing and Office of Admissions to promote and coordinate the Center’s events, academic offerings, and other theological engagements
  • Maintain relationship with the Institute for Community Engagement at Wesley Downtown through coordination of programming and Fellows programming
  • Cultivate relationships with and public theology students at seminary; attend student events on Wesley’s main campus
  • Coordinate development efforts between Center director, staff, and the Department of Development
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the director
  • Provide support as needed to public theology faculty

Qualifications:

Successful candidates should be self-starters, reliable, energetic and produce high quality work. Excellent written communication, organizational and leadership skills are essential.  Experience in performance, operations and strategic planning/management is necessary for this position.

Desired candidates will have an understanding of public theology and aptitude for contextualizing its application; a passion for creating spaces of civil dialogue; experience in donor relations; grant writing experience and website management/social media engagement.  Completion of a Master’s degree is required.  Prior experience in an institute of higher education and/or the church is a plus.
