After hearing from the voices of our constituents, the Black Methodists for Church Renewal (BMCR) has taken a position to support the Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace Through Separation.

If The United Methodist Church is unable to live into the fullness of God's beloved community where everyone is celebrated, valued and welcomed, the BMCR - as one of the five officially recognized racial-ethnic caucuses of the United Methodist Church - supports the Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace Through Separation to become the first priority of General Conference.

The Protocol allows BMCR to continue its mission of action, advocacy, affirmation, and agitation for the unique needs of black people in the United Methodist Church by setting aside $39 million of funding for the racial-ethnic caucus and ministries over eight years. The Protocol acknowledges the historic overt forms of systemic racism in all local churches, regional conferences, general agencies, and institutions of the United Methodist Church and provides funds by which BMCR can further work to address systemic racism.

BMCR also supports the Protocol as it promotes the United Methodist Church becoming God's beloved community in which all people are welcomed and affirmed. The Protocol empowers the Black Church through BMCR to continue its effective and prophetic witness, outreach as well as service in local churches, districts, annual conferences, and the larger community.

It is the hope of BMCR that the Protocol and the efforts of BMCR will assist the United Methodist Church to be its best self for the glory of God
