BISHOP MELVIN GEORGE TALBERT LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
Creative leadership for world-changing realities calls for bold witness, centered in compassion and good will for people. Known and highly regarded for his gifts of leadership, Bishop Melvin George Talbert’s name is given to a new leadership institute, established to honor the man who, throughout his ministry, expertly exhibited bold witness and administrative acumen. Bishop Talbert often uses the phrase “a teachable moment” and actively seeks those moments, leading by example, as a mentor, pastor, conference council staff member, district superintendent, general secretary, and bishop.
Designed to engage young leaders—laity and clergy—the Bishop Melvin George Talbert Leadership Institute will enhance their leadership and administrative potential through knowledge and praxis in scholarship, interpersonal relations, skill development, strategic thinking and planning.
Using an incubator approach, the institute will foster greater awareness of United Methodism and the distinctiveness of our Wesleyan heritage. The Talbert Leadership Institute will engage collaboratively in leadership projects with United Methodist seminaries, historically Black colleges and universities, and the general agencies of The United Methodist Church. It may assist Black Methodists for Church Renewal, Inc., in working with conference leadership development programs for high school youth and young adults.
By contributing financially, you give this institute a healthy beginning so that very soon, it will equip more young leaders to be grounded and nurtured in the ministry around which Bishop Talbert has built his life.
